If Bismarck North Dakota is not on your list of places to visit, you need to add it. This city has small town charm, but still offers many options to entertain the family. We found so much to do, if only we had more time to spend here. Read my ten reasons to visit Bismarck with your family.
Have you ever imagined yourself on vacation in Arkansas? I know I certainly never had. Then we traveled through the state in our RV, and I realized what a great place it is. Especially for families.
What to Expect in Arkansas
Picture yourself in Arkansas. Now what do you see? Hear? Smell? Anything? Anyone?
OK, so maybe some people have an idea of what Arkansas is like. For Example, the people from Arkansas or maybe even those from neighboring states. But let’s be honest, most people don’t really think much about Arkansas.
However, you should because it is such a beautiful place. I was amazed by the incredible landscape here. Every place on Earth has a beauty to it, in Arkansas it included things like:
Even though I had no idea what to expect when we got to Arkansas, this was not it. You might be thinking, so what everywhere has trees, and you are right, but the scenery here is just magnificent. Follow our adventure to find out where we stayed, what we did, and where we ate in Arkansas.
There are many State Parks throughout Arkansas with a variety of activities to offer for families. Lake Fort Smith State Parks is located in the Ozark National Forest and is a wonderful place to get away from the city.
Doing things outdoors is something our family enjoys a great deal. In Arkansas there are endless opportunities for outdoor adventures. This includes mining for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park.
Family vacations can get expensive, especially on the east coast. The following is a list of family and budget friendly places you should visit.
This museum is located on an air force base in Pensacola Florida. Due to it being an active military site there is some security to go through before getting inside. It is well worth it though. The museum is huge. You will see airplanes from all over the world and spanning through time. Also make sure to get on the trolley tour of the back lot, where you will see some of the planes they can’t fit inside the museum. Kids will love getting inside some of the planes, the best part is that it’s free.
Often when traveling we find that places are not always what we expect them to be. In our minds we have a picture or idea of how a place will look, but once we arrive we find that it is very different from our original sentiment. Upstate New York is a perfect example of this. While I knew that this part of the state was going to be rural, it was still very different from what I had pictured.
If you visit Maine there are two places that you will definitely not want to miss. We had already planned on staying in both of them, but especially after being told by many of the locals that they are the must see places in the state we really had to see for ourselves. These two places are Acadia National Park and Baxter State Park. Both of them were beautiful and we are so glad we had the opportunity to experience them. Not only were the places themselves beautiful, but we found some great campgrounds to stay in and made some new friends too. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to visit Maine, it is such a beautiful and natural place.
Giving our children an education that they could never receive sitting in a classroom at a desk has been what our adventure is all about. There are so many amazing places to see and things to experience in this country that it makes homeschooling so easy. The best part about it is that we are learning all this great stuff together. We have now taken them to half of the state capitols in the country and to countless museums both large and small. The learning never stops and what I love is that my children are so excited about learning and tell me how much they like to learn new things; something I think every parent wants to hear. Our travels have recently brought us into the first of our New England states and we experienced another first which was visiting back to back state capitols. Most of these northern states are pretty small which made it easy for us to visit both Hartford and Providence from the same camp. We made our home in Connecticut for a week and explored the area.
I can honestly say that I never thought I would go to Delaware and wasn’t even sure what we would do while visiting the state. Well like every other state we have visited so far, Delaware didn’t disappoint us and we had a blast while visiting the nation’s very first state. We decided to stay at a state park that was south of Dover, since we knew we would be heading to Annapolis when we left. Killen’s Pond was almost full when we arrived and we took the last spot in the camp that our trailer could fit into. I was a bit worried over the camp because it was so full and the campsites were pretty close, but the next day was a Monday and we quickly had the entire loop to ourselves. The camp ground was not the best we have stayed out, which is ironic since they have signs saying Delaware state parks are the best in the United States. There was quite a lot of trash in our site though and we never saw anyone picking up the sites the entire time we stayed there. Every time I needed help at the entrance station it was a fiasco and the workers were struggling. The bathrooms were decent, but were operated with push buttons and anyone who has used this style of shower knows how annoying they are (especially when you have three kids to shower off). The location for seeing the capitol was very convenient being just a twenty minute trip into the city.
