As a traveling family we move around quite a bit, but not every place we stay is ideal for a family. We love to share with our readers the great RV camping spots we find in each state. The places we share will always be either family friendly, budget friendly or hopefully both. In Arkansas we were lucky to find several great RV camping sites and we want to tell you all about them.
Nashville City Park
City Parks can be some of the best places to RV for families. They are usually very reasonably priced and always have a playground. In Nashville, Arkansas we found their City Park to be very pleasant. Although, the roads getting in are a little narrow and the full hookup spot was difficult to locate (we stayed in one with only water and power anyway), we loved our stay here.
It was quiet at night, had several playgrounds to choose from, and the staff was exceptionally nice. Not to mention that the price was great! Not a single other RV came to the park during our entire five night stay.
We also found a terrific Mexican restaurant in town called Papa Poblanos that not only had great prices, but some of the most delicious Mexican food we have encountered. If you need to do a little shopping there is a nearby grocery store too. Nashville City Park is definitely worth staying in for a few nights if you are in the area.
Treasure Isle RV Park
When looking for great RV camping spots we are also looking for family places that fit our budget as well. Near Hot Springs National Park we found Treasure Isle RV Park to fit both of these categories.
Of course, we did use our Passport America Discount which helps with the price tremendously. The camp was great though, with it’s convenient location to the national park as well as other attractions, we really enjoyed staying here.
The owners are very friendly and keep the place clean. There is a small playground that we could see from our site, so letting the kids play was easy. During the right season you may even get to enjoy the pool (it wasn’t open yet during our stay). The laundry is centrally located and was only a dollar to wash and a dollar to dry. With all these amenities, including full hookups, it makes for a great place to park the RV.
Downtown Riverside RV Park
North Little Rock, Arkansas is a terrific family destination. Having the Downtown Riverside RV Park available to travelers is so convenient. There are so many things to do with a family in the city that this location makes it easy to get just about anywhere.
On either side of this great RV camping spot are bridges you can walk or bike along. One is easily accessible right from camp, while the other is only a short walk or ride away. They also light up at night which is an amazing sight.
Every site has full hookups, some are gravel and back in, while others are cement pads and pull thrus. There are no picnic tables at the sites because they are somewhat close together (it is city camping after all), but there is a covered area with tables, as well as a few tables near the river.
Although this camp does not have a playground and isn’t the most kid friendly place we have stayed, it’s convenient location and great views is how it makes it on our list of favorite campgrounds. There is an awesome playground across the bridge and not far from the camp. It was one of the coolest we have come across on our adventure so far.
Lake Fort Smith State Park
We love staying in State Parks. They typically make great RV camping spots with reasonable rates and are right in nature. Lake Fort Smith camping was a little steep on the roads getting into and out of the campground. However, it is well worth it once you get there.
You can choose from sites with full hookups or water and electric only. The pads are fairly level for being in the mountains and they are all very clean. Each site has a picnic table, a fire pit, and tent pad. It is a very natural and quiet setting where you can enjoy being away from it all.
Nearby you will find a visitors center and a playground. It is also not too far from several quaint small towns. If you stop in Alma be sure to get a bite to eat in a small family owned restaurant called Let’s Eat. It is delicious, family friendly, and their prices are fabulous.
